A Little More About Me…
How I Stumbled Into Copywriting
I’ve worked as a salesperson for most of my life. I’ve always loved engaging with people
and learning about other people’s lives. I’m curious about their worries, their wants, and their needs. Helping people discover what brings them joy or discovering solutions to their problems is fulfilling for me.
Often, I’ve worked with start-up companies and small businesses that needed me to do various tasks in addition to sales. Because I was on the frontlines with customers, I knew what they liked. It just made sense for me to team up with the graphic designer to create marketing materials and packaging. I’d get asked to sit down with the website designer to come up with some words for the company’s web pages.
I didn’t know that this was the role of copywriters. It’s just what I did. And I loved it.
People often imagine copywriters working in isolation, which is true when we’re writing, but effective messages can only come from intimate knowledge of your audience.
That intimate knowledge starts with our connection. I learn from you first: your product, your service, what you need, what you want, what you’ve tried that works, and what hasn’t worked. Once we meet and form our connection dynamic things begin to happen. Our connection is what builds the bridge to your audience.
When the end goal is to connect with people everybody wins!
You’re here now because you have something people want. So, let’s team up to give the people what they want!
Why I Write a Healthy Lifestyle Blog
I’ve been interested in the body’s ability to heal itself from a young age. As a pre-internet young adult, I lugged around thick books about healing foods. I used to subscribe to nutrition journals and all types of health and fitness magazines. But I still fell for some of the most widely used marketing tricks (fat free brownies anyone).
I wasn’t alone though. I live in the USA and most Americans are facing multiple health crises. Some of my closest friends and relatives suffer from diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and auto immune diseases.
I started to get angry about all the health related misinformation. Even “legitimate” news sources would report poppycock like 2 glasses of red wine having the same health benefits as a gym workout (no joke, I heard that once on the news).
I channeled my anger and disappointment into finding solid information about how to live a happier and healthier life. Now we have the internet! And while it’s so much easier to find information, the double edge sword is, it’s also a lot easier to get bogged down with misinformation and redundancies.
I’ve been leading a mostly healthy lifestyle for decades now. Leading a healthy lifestyle is actually kind of easy once you get used to it. But first you need solid information and sometimes it’s difficult to tell the good information from the hype. That’s where I hope to help.
Writing a healthy lifestyle blog keeps me on track and forces me to read and share information I’ve learned from scientific studies and life.
